LBWH Life: Fashion Reality Shows

A sólo semanas de decirle adiós a mis vacaciones, mi cuerpo decidió dejarme plantada por unos días. Ando media malita desde el domingo, y ya estoy en el punto en que no aguanto más estar enferma (a quién le gusta? no te deja hacer mucho) pero! lo bueno es que encontré algo para que las horas pasen más rápido y me olvide del hambre y un poco del dolor: reality shows…de moda! 

Desde el clásico Project Runway hasta el nuevo 24 Hour Catwalk, aquí les escribo una lista de los reality shows sobre moda que (cuando tengan tiempo) no se pueden perder! 

Project Runway All Stars

Este reality aún se encuentra al aire en USA y es el mismo PR de siempre pero los concursantes son los diseñadores más conocidos de temporadas pasadas. Entre ellos tenemos al fabuloso Austin Scarlett, Mondo Guerra, Sweet P, Rami Kashou, etc. El único contra es que no es el mismo panel de siempre, no hay Heidi ni Tim ni Michael ni Nina. Pero están Georgina Chapman (Marchesa) y Isaac Mizrahi de jurado y reemplazando a Tim Gunn está nada más ni nada menos que Joanna Coles, EIC de Marie Claire US. Me gusta que TODO es en grande: los premios, los retos y los jurados invitados (ya estuvo Diane Von Fürstenberg, Miranda Kerr y pronto estará Pharrell!)

The Rachel Zoe Project

Este show trata sobre la vida de la estilista y ahora diseñadora Rachel Zoe, conocida como estilista de las celebridades de Hollywood. Sólo he visto la última temporada, y aunque nunca me cayó en gracia Rachel, me pareció interesante para ver el proceso por el que pasan para llevar una colección acabo, editoriales y el marketing de la marca. Aparte, Rachel pasa embarazada casi toda la temporada así que es increíble ver como esta mujer hace malabares para tener todo listo a tiempo y seguir tomando trabajos. Un must.

It's a Brad Brad World

Este reality es nuevo. El centro es Brad Goreski, ex-asistente de Rachel Zoe (también salía en su reality) quien ahora busca hacerse un nombre en el mundo de la moda como estilista. Presentan su entorno de vida, el desarrollo de una editorial y como poco a poco va a avanzando en Hollywood.

24 Hour Catwalk

Alexa Chung presenta este show (yee!) lo que significa ver sus outfits semana tras semana y hasta ahora no le encuentro uno malo. Este también sigue al aire, y trata de 4 diseñadores compitiendo para llegar a los dos finalistas que realizarán una colección en sólo 24 HORAS. Si, leyeron bien: 24 horas. Todas las semanas hay un tema nuevo y entre el jurado están Cynthia Rowley, James LaForce y Derek Blasberg. Es un show para pasar el rato para mí (que es justo lo que estaba buscando) pero es divertido por los temas que le van dando cada semana. 

Project Accessory

Sí, es un spin-off de Project Runway. Sí, es sobre accesorios. Tengo que decir que fue una sorpresa para mí. No le tenía mucha fe a este show, pero me encantó. Yo que este año llevaré Accesorios en clases, me pareció genial ver las distintas técnicas que usan los diseñadores para producir sus diseños. Para mí es un musa entre todos estos shows. 

Como ven, estos días he estado haciendo NADA, pero hoy me levanto como sea, con o sin dolor para ir a la charla del IED sobre Global Fashion Trends en Chio Lecca. De pasada me voy re-acostumbrando a las salas y las clases de nuevo. Otro año comienza!

I have about two weeks left of vacations and my body decided to stop a few days ago. I'm sick. And I'm sick of being sick! So, while I get better I've been doing pretty much nothing, until I found something to pass the time faster: Fashion Reality Shows! 

From the classic Project Runway to the newest 24 Hour Catwalk, here's a list of the shows I've been passing my time with, and, if you find time, you should too:

Project Runway All Stars

Still on air in US, this show is almost the same as the usual PR, only the contestants are the most known and talented from previous seasons. So we have fabulous Austin Scarlett, Rami Kashou, Mondo Guerra, etc. Also, there's no Heidi or Tim, but we have Georgina Chapman Marchesa) and Isaac Mizrahi as judges, and Joanna Coles (Marie Claire US EIC) as Tim Gunn. Everything is big here, the prices, the challenges and the guest judges. This show is clearly a must for me, we have Austin Scarlett again!

The Rachel Zoe Project

This show is about the life of stylist and now designer Rachel Zoe and her whereabouts in fashion. I've only watched the last season and it was crazy, from getting the collection together to jump from photoshoot to photoshoot and do everything while being pregnant. Crazy right?

It's a Brad Brad World

Centering in the life and work of Brad Goreski, former assistant for Rachel Zoe, now trying to make a name of himself in the fashion world. Here we see the fun and the struggle, photoshoots and styling, and Brad is so lovely!

24 Hour Catwalk

Alexa Chung hosts this show. That means Alexa on 2 different outfits every week. (I actually don't need anything else) The show is about 4 designers competing to be the final two who will develop their own collections in 24 hours, yes, 24 hours. There's a new theme every week, and judges include Derek Blasberg, Cynthia Rowley and James LaForce. For me it's a so-so show, but it's fun to pass time.

Project Accessory

Ok, this one I wasn't expecting to be good. Yes is a Project Runway spin-off, yes is about accessories. But it really works! I'm studying accessories later in the year and form it was so interesting and fun to see what they use and how they produce different shapes for their accessories in one or two days. A must.

So as you read, I really didn't do much this week. I'm still a bit sick and the doctor is on his way, but today I'll get out of my bed pain or no pain. It's too much, I'm running out of shows to watch!

LBWH Style: LBWH's Lady Like Bracelets

Inaugurando sección en el blog! 

Hoy les muestro como armar un look con las pulseras Lady Like de LBWH que las pueden encontrar aquí. Para hoy escogí la Lady Like Nude y la Lady Like Ultramarine Green. Enjoy!

Usando los tonos veraniegos de estas Lady Like, las junté con un tank top tejido en tono crudo con una falda de basta asimétrica en tono naranja. (Falda en tendencia + color del año = perfect!) 

Para los accesorios y complementos escogí un collar dorado con cadenas e inspiración algo tribal, un bolso de diario en tono menta (AMO ese menta) y unas sandalias con plataforma y cuña en tono nude para hacer más llevadero el día a día bajo este calor limeño.

And we have a new section in the blog! 

Today I'll show how to built a look around LBWH's Lady Like bracelets. This time I chose Lady Like Nude and Lady Like Ultramarine Green, you can find them here.

I used the summer tones this pair of Lady Like bracelets have and paired them with a knit tank top in a raw nude tone with an assymetric hemline skirt in orange. This is THE shape of skirts for summer + the color of the year so, you can't go wrong with this one. 

To accessorize, I chose a gold necklace with a tribal inspiration, a tanner nude pair of wedges to cope with the rough summer days we're having in Lima. 

Hope you liked the new section! I certainly enjoyed a lot doing this.

Aunque sí considero que en Valentino y Christian Dior no salieron mucho de su zona de comfort, (casi nada) y que en Valentino no nos dieron un solo vestido rojo! ...eso no le quita lo bello a estos trajes que por ahora he definido como Alexa Chung - Mad Men - Sex And The City (en ese mismo orden) ...más tarde sigo con más!

Even though Valentino and Christian Dior stayed pretty much in their comfort zone and the fact that we didn't get a single red dress in Valentino (what's that about?) this outfits are still gorgeous and beautifully made. As of now though, I'm defining these collections as Alexa Chung goes to gala (Valentino), Mad Men (Christian Dior, thanks Captain Obvious) and Sex And The City (seriously, I can perfectly imagine the girls in any of Alexis Mabille's outfits)

*Cosas* que dicen las Fashion girls - #totesamaze !

Oh Tumblr, oh los famosos con Tumblr. Estaba disfrutando de una inesperada maratón de Sex and the City (quién lo diría, siempre esquivé esta serie y ahora me volví una junkie total), cuando me dio por revisar mi TL en Twitter y veo que Joel Madden tuiteó el siguiente video comentando desde su Tumblr: 

"This reminds me of my wife in the best way possible. If thats possible. Yes it is. Bingo." 

Su esposa (por si no saben) es Nicole Richie. Morí de risa! Este video hecho por The Platform es perfecto, el actor le da en el clavo al típico estereotipo de la fashion girl y creo que más de alguna se sentirá identificada siquiera un poquito. Y como esto es un parodia no hay por qué escandalizarse ni sentirse, no vale picarse! Además, quién hizo el styling? He looks #totesamaze ! 

Aquí algunas de las frases más chistosas en mi opinión:

Oh Tumblr. Oh Twitter. I was enjoying a Sex and the City marathon when I went to check my Twitter and found that Joel Madden had tweet this from his Tumblr: "This reminds me of my wife in the best way possible. If thats possible. Yes it is. Bingo." and the next thing was the video above from The Platform. Isn't it hilarious? The guy gets the fashion girl stereotype perfectly! I laughed so much and felt *a little bit* identified with it. Did you? One of the best moments for me was the "girl" with the BETCH shirt. Above I share a list of the funniest moments for me and...who styled this parody? The guy looks #totesamaze!

Fat vs. Skinny - ¿Por qué estamos discutiendo?

Acabo de leer esta editorial de PLUS Model Magazine, dado todo el drama que rodea al tema de las modelos consideradas "plus size" y las modelos de talla "normal" y cómo esto afecta al resto de mujeres en el mundo que somos todos los días bombardeadas con publicidad diciéndonos como "deberíamos" vernos. Ya estoy un poco harta del tema, así que esto es lo que tengo que decir: 

Hay mujeres flacas, hay mujeres gordas, hay muy flacas y muy gordas, así como todas las que están en el medio. Todas somos "reales". La idea es que exista una variedad de tallas en todo tipo de ropa (moda y full moda, no sólo básica), para que todas podamos sentirnos cómodas con nuestro cuerpo, sea cual sea el que tengamos. Y por supuesto, incitar a las que estamos en uno u otro extremo de todo este tema, a ser más saludables para proteger nuestro cuerpo. Porque esto es una cuestión de salud, no un tema de cumplir con un "estándar" de belleza. 

Es así como debemos ver todo este tema. Sólo algo que quería compartir.

I just read this editorial from PLUS Model Magazine, given the whole drama surrounding "Plus size" models and "average" models and how this affects every single women in the world who is daily exposed to all kinds of publicity telling us how we should look. I've kinda had it with this issue, so this is what I have to say about it: 

There are thin women and fat women, there are very skinny and very fat women, and there are also the women in the middle. We are all "REAL" women. And there should be a variety of sizes that fit all of or body types, whatever that is, in not just basic, but also fashionable clothing. Of course we also want to encourage everyone of us that are in the extremes of this issue (too skinny or too obese), in order to get healthier because that's what this whole problem should be about: to get HEALTHIER. Not to meet some sort of "beauty standard" proposed by someone. 

This is how we should deal with this whole "fat vs skinny" drama. I just felt like sharing this and hopefully it doesn't come off too strong.

Ana Kras

Para qué estamos con cosas, sé de la existencia de Ana Kras desde hace una semana, principalmente porque es la enamorada/novia/conviviente/quiensabequemás de Devendra Banhart (uno de mis músicos favoritos) y se cruzó en mi camino durante una tarde en Tumblr. Luego hice memoria y recordé que en el concierto de Devendra @Lollapalooza Chile el año pasado, dos personas pasaron por mi lado justo cuando terminó el concierto y alguien le digo al bouncer, "she's the musician's girlfriend! Let her in!" para que pasara al backstage. No la vi muy bien, casi nada en realidad, sólo recuerdo que la encontré alta y media hippie. 

Por lo que he leído trabaja como ilustradora, diseñadora de muebles y fotógrafa entre otras cosas. Es de Serbia y tiene 27 años. Su estilo es simple y vintage, muy cómodo y suelto. Pero además de su forma de vestir, me gusta mucho el trabajo que ha hecho en general. No me digan que no hay algo especial ahí?

So, I've got to confess I found out about Ana Kras about a week ago, since I saw a picture of her and Devendra Banhart (one my favorite musicians) on Tumblr. Later I realized I actually saw her at Lollapalooza Chile last year, when someone else was trying to let her in to the backstage area claiming something like "let her in, she's the musician's girlfriend". What I remember is this pretty, kinda hippie girl, but it was dark so there's no much to tell. After doing some research I found out she's a photographer, a furniture designer and an illustrator amongst other art related work. You can see in the pictures her style is simple and vintage, very comfortable yet with attitude. But besides her style, I'm fascinated with her work as an artist, because that's what she is. Just take a look and you'll see there's something very special about her.
